That 70's Show
That 70's Show is a sitcom based around a few teenagers who grow up in the 1970's. It was extremely successful and lasted for 8 consecutive seasons. The re-runs are continuously played on many television channels. The number 1 reason the show was so successful is the acting is great from almost all the cast members. And a cast of great actors almost always produces a hit. Their talent is projected even more with the way the camera zooms in for close mid-range shots, allowing the actors to exemplify their many facial expressions and convey the depth of their characters. Probably the least capable of the actors is Topher Grace, who plays Eric. But even with his somewhat lacking capability, he still is a success because of the nature of his character. He is supposed to be kind of shy and dull. The way the show is filmed in front of a live audience, with only a few different sets, forces the actors to do exactly that: act. In comparison to film, where many different takes and odd camera angles and special effects can propel someone's acting ability, here they don't have as many of those options. All in all, a combination of well planned camera angles and good acting forced this show into the mainstream market and into success.
