So, what movie am I speaking about? No, not Glitter. I am talking about Suspiria, a movie from the 70's. What makes this movie so darn frightening is the colors and the theme song (which you can listen to here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJUaCAIxSk4 ). The theme song is done on the bells- a shrill version of a xylophone. It also has a scratchy voice whispering through some of it making it even more chilling. I am all about music, so this theme stood out to me in this movie. Now, about the colors. What do colors have anything to do with a movie? Well, the lead actress was constantly put under red lights. Every highlight of a character was put under a certain shade of color to represent their aura, almost. This movie didn't have too much action, but perhaps one of the most gory and bloody scenes in modern horror films. I don't want to give too much away, so I will leave it at that. The movie is just kind of a disturbing, bloody, 70's blur. I would recommend seeing this but HOLY CRAP I am sleeping with my lights on tonight.
This interdisciplinary seminar uses creativity as an organizing principle. Human culture and consciousness are explored through reading, writing, the arts, projects, studios, and discussions. An emphasis will be placed the cultural artifact know as the movies or film or the cinema or motion pictures or flicks or history written in lighting, etc. Students will explore the basic building blocks of this cultural phenomenon, business giant, and central art form of the twentieth century.
