Recently, 3D movies have become extremely popular. Many movies nowadays are offered regularly and in 3D. Even the Lion King, a family favorite, has been brought back to theaters to be shown in 3D. I, for one, am not the biggest fan of 3D movies because I usually get a headache when I watch them. However, I seem to be in the minority because they are continually gaining popularity.
3D movies offer a different perspective than regular movies. The audience does indeed have a feeling of being a central part of the movie. I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two regularly and in 3D. The 3D version did provide me with a feeling of being in the movie. My perspective was different because I was seeing the movie in a way unlike I had in the regular version.
The director of Avatar believed in the importance of 3D technology to such an extent that he waited until that technology was available before making the movie. Avatar was created in a way that would capture the audience as if they too were participating in the action that was occurring. Many other directors and screenwriters hold the same idea. They believe that 3D technology provides a viewing experience that includes the audience in a way unlike that of a regular movie. The major shift in perspective provides a completely different way of observation.
The technology that was once only seen in the movies and rides found in MGM or Universal is now commonly used. With such continued technological advancements, I can’t help but wonder what the future has in store for film.
