The movie “I am Number Four” is the typical teen fantasy thriller, with attractive protagonists, a love story, violence, action, and of course, aliens. “I am Number Four” is about a teenage boy from a different planet and how he fights off enemy aliens who are trying to take over earth. Even though the story is generic and expected, the special affects, costumes, and makeup were used effectively. The special effects added visual interest to the story. The dark set contrasted with the bright colors used in the special effects.Furthermore, special effects were used to transform a small dog into a huge scary creature. The costumes added a lot to the story. Although the main character was supposed to be an alien, he was dressed in the wardrobe of a typical teenage boy. This made the story believable. Contrastingly, the enemy aliens were dressed in black, this exemplified their status as the “bad guys.” Furthermore, the enemy aliens were made to look fearsome with makeup. The enemies’ heads were covered with scary dark tattoos. Additionally, the evil aliens had gills and unsightly teeth. The makeup made the aliens appear to be scary and gruesome creatures. Even though the special effects, wardrobe, and makeup were done well, it was all lost on the story. The story was a generic one, with the standard popular quarterback, the typical high school party, and the illicit relationship. In addition, the conclusion was expected, the main character wins the girl, saves the day, and rides off into the sunset. Although I enjoyed watching the movie, I would have found it to be a more entertaining experience if the movie had an unexpected plot.

Great attention to mise-en-scene elements and generic features. I will wait to see this film, then!
