Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Series

Okay, I know Call of Duty is a video game, but for those who have played the campaign you would agree that it is filled with movie-like characteristics. Just focusing on the Modern Warfare series (includes three games), the single-player story mode has stayed connected since the first video game. It is odd to think that Call of Duty is movie-like, but if you break it down you can see what qualities it has similar to those of a Hollywood movie. When you play the story mode, you don;t just play with random soldiers. It is set up to where you get to know a few main characters that you follow throughout the game, or until their time is up in the story. The game developers had to create ideas that they would be able to keep going as new games, to the series, were created. It is clear to see that the time put into the games is more than the time put into some of the bad Hollywood movies. It is sad to say but once you see the game and accept that it has a plot that is much better than some actual movies, you will see why I say Call of Duty is relattable to movies. I looked online and was able to find some of the storyboards that were created to help keep all of the sub stories organized. They were as detailed as the examples we saw in class, and that is when I really thought about all the time put into making the story mode of video games. If you look at any major video game that includes a solo story mode, I am sure that if you broke it down you would be able to compare it to how movies are made in Hollywood today.
